There’s no doubt that CBD has taken every industry by storm. You can find CBD pet treats, cocktails, lattes, hair products, and even skin care products. While the most common forms are edibles and oils, the growing hype of CBD in general is causing these other forms to become more and more popular.
So, what’s with all the buzz? And is there even a point to having CBD in things like your skin care routine? We got some answers for you!
The Benefits
First and foremost, CBD is an anti-inflammatory. That property alone explains why CBD is such a good component to include in something like a topical, skin product. Many of our skin issues stem from inflammation: psoriasis, acne, discoloration, hyperpigmentation, sunburn, etc. So pairing CBD with other common skincare ingredients, like ceramides and vitamin B3, make CBD skincare pack a punch.
CBD isn’t just an anti-inflammatory, though. Studies have found cannabinoids, the CBD compounds extracted from the cannabis or hemp plant, help alleviate symptoms of mental health disorders, acute and chronic pain, arthritis and many others. This is because of how CBD works in your body: the Endocannabinoid System (ECS). Basically, this system is in charge of a ton of your body’s important functions (sleeping, memory, appetite, etc). Adding CBD into the mix helps that system work the best it can, meaning your body’s systems are more regulated!
Why do these other benefits matter when using CBD skin care products?
While some of CBD’s many benefit may not specifically help your skin, they are a way to get more out of your skincare products and your CBD. When you use a CBD eye cream, for example, you’re getting the anti-inflammatory properties of the CBD, the moisturizing properties of other ingredients in the cream, and you’re also absorbing that CBD into your body, which could help with things like headaches, and even anxiety symptoms.
The Uses
By now you’re probably thinking “So I get what CBD does for me, and how it’s beneficial for me, but how does it all work together? Do I have to buy all new skincare products that are made with CBD?” Let’s clear it up a little more on how you use CBD skincare:
New products
The most simple way to incorporate CBD into your skincare routine would be to, duh, get some skincare products that are specifically made with CBD. This is a good option if you’re just starting out, because these products are already formulated with the right amounts of CBD and other ingredients—meaning the guesswork is taken out of it for you!
As with most skin products, always test on a small area of skin before applying to larger areas to prevent things like bad or allergic reactions to a new product.
Mixing it up
If you already like the products you have, it might be best for you to mix CBD oil into your moisturizers, creams, or even body scrubs. This allows you to control how much CBD you’re using. It also lets you try it without committing to an entire new product. We recommend using something like a pure CBD oil or CBD tincture oil to add to your cream products.
Try adding some into your lip scrub or face mask on your next self-care day!
